PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s Lexington Classic Returns to Rupp Arena on Jan. 25, 2020
Tickets to the event showcasing America’s Original Extreme Sport on Sale Monday, October 28
LEXINGTON, Kentucky (10/21/2019) – For the third time in as many years, PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) will buck into Lexington, Kentucky and Rupp Arena. America’s Original Extreme Sport is set to storm into the Bluegrass State on Saturday, January 25, 2020 with the Lexington Classic.
For one night only, some of the best bull riders in the world will battle the sport’s rankest bovine athletes in the ultimate showdown of man vs. beast. As one of the most exciting live sporting events to witness, the fearless riders of the PBR are eager to bring back to Lexington the only sport that pits a lightweight against a heavyweight in epic 8-second confrontations.
In 2019, Stormy Wing (Dalhart, Texas) delivered a flawless 2-for-2 performance to win the Lexington Classic and surge to No. 34 in the world.
His 8-second efforts included an 84.5-point trip on Resident Evil (JQH Bucking Bulls-Skip & Elaine Jones) in Round 1, and a championship round-best 85.5-point ride on Shazam (Halpain & Roth).
The season prior, Keyshawn Whitehorse (McCracken Springs, Utah) claimed the first-ever PWVT event win inside the home of the Kentucky Wildcats. The victory proved to be a crucial stepping-stone on Whitehorse’s path to becoming the 2018 PBR Rookie of the Year.
Following his event win in Kentucky, and a third-place effort the subsequent weekend in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Whitehorse became a regular on the premier series. He would compete at the first PBR World Finals of his career and finish the season No. 19 in the world.
The Lexington Classic will mark the seventh PWVT event of the year, with PBR’s fastest-growing tour first making stops in cities such as Jacksonville, Florida, Baltimore, Maryland, and Portland, Oregon. The Lexington event will also be one of two PWVT events being held on January 25, with the tour simultaneously visiting Spokane, Washington.
The bull riding action begins at 7:00 p.m. EST on Saturday, January 25 at Rupp Arena.
All riders will attempt one bull each in Round 1 on Saturday night. The Top 10 will then advance to the championship round where they will attempt one final bull, all in an effort to be crowned the event champion, earning 170 world points and their portion of the $20,000 purse. Additionally, the Lexington Classic event winner will also earn an invite to compete on the elite PBR Unleash The Beast.
Tickets for the event go on sale Monday, October 28, and start at $15. They can be purchased at the Lexington Center Ticket Office, (859) 233-3535, online at Ticketmaster.com, PBRTix.com, or by calling PBR Direct at (800) 732-1727.
